Two individuals sentenced to jail by Ogun magistrate court for cable theft

Being found guilty of stealing armoured cables belonging to Dangote Cement Company in Ibese has led Hussain Waziri and Mustapha Aliyu to receive a one-year jail sentence from the Magistrate Court in Ilaro, Ogun State.

Both Waziri, aged 36, and Aliyu, aged 33, were brought before M. T. Olayemi Osikoya on Tuesday where they admitted to the charges against them, resulting in their conviction on two counts.

Reports from NewsNow revealed that the two culprits were apprehended at the Dangote Cement Factory Outpost station during a routine patrol conducted by operatives from the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

Allegedly, these repeat cable thieves conspired to trespass by leaping over the perimeter fence and gaining entry into the cable yard within the power plant.

Upon being cornered, the pair resorted to violence against the security personnel with hazardous tools in an attempt to evade capture, yet they were eventually subdued, arrested, and brought before the court to face charges.

In response to the apprehension and subsequent conviction, David Ojelabi, the NSCDC Ogun State commandant, reiterated the command’s dedication to safeguarding critical infrastructure and eliminating criminal activities in Ogun State and the entirety of Nigeria.
