Keir Starmer’s political future remains up in the air. The current British Prime Minister remains at his Checkers residence reflecting on his continuity at the head of the Government while reports grow in the British media about a possible resignation. In the midst of this uncertainty, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, has taken for granted the departure of the Labor leader from Downing Street and has criticized his management on immigration and energy policy. “He will resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He failed miserably on two crucial issues: immigration and energy,” Trump posted on his social network.
The US president especially criticized the British management of the exploitation of North Sea oil resources during the Iran war, an issue that has generated tensions between both governments in recent weeks. Despite his criticism, Trump concluded his publication by wishing the Labor leader “the best.”
Andy Burnham: the favorite among Labor
The prime minister’s situation has become complicated after the poor results obtained by Labor in the municipal elections last May, in addition to the return of Andy Burnham to Parliament and, as a consequence, his possible replacement of Starmer. Burnham’s victory in the Makerfield elections to Parliament allows him to be one of the candidates for the Labor leadership and, possibly, to be Prime Minister, since he has significant support within the Labor political formation.
Meanwhile, sources close to Starmer have explained that he has not made a decision but will give his party a response “soon.”
