Trump assures his "Friend" Meloni who sees feasible a commercial agreement with the EU

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has received this Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni on Thursday, in which he has been the first visit of a European leader after the “offensive of the tariffs” announced by the US president on April 2.

During the meeting, Trump has shown a great cordiality towards Meloni, whom he has described as “Exceptional person” and “special”, ensuring “100% sure” that a commercial agreement can be reached with the European Union that avoids the tariff climb.

One of the most prominent achievements of the visit has been the acceptance by Trump of an invitation to make an official visit to Rome soon, where he could also meet with representatives of the European Union, which would give Meloni an important role as a mediator.

“I’m very proud to be sitting here as Prime Minister of Italy“Meloni said, who has repeated Trump’s famous electoral motto saying that they want to” make the big west again “and that they can achieve it together.

The meeting occurs at a crucial moment, after Trump reduced his initial tariff offensive, leaving a generalized 10% tax for a period of 90 days for most countries, including the EU, while the definitive terms are negotiated.

Both leaders highlighted the values they share, such as the fight against irregular immigration and what they called “Woke ideology”. Meloni has also confirmed Italy’s intention to reach 2% of GDP in defense expenses, a commitment valued positively by Trump.

“Italy is the best ally in the United States, if Meloni remains Prime Minister,” Trump said in a statement that reflects the good harmony between both leaders.

The visit concluded with a bilateral lunch, after which Meloni returned to Rome, where tomorrow he will receive the US vice president, JD Vance, at the Chigi Palace.
