Tragic Incident in Plateau: 8-month-old baby and seven others kiIIed

A devastating incident occurred in Farin Lamba, Vwang District, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, where gunmen suspected to be herders took the lives of eight people, including a defenseless 8-month-old baby and her father.

Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Movement (BYM), stated that the tragic attack occurred around 9:45pm on Sunday, July 9, 2023.

Tengwong expressed, “This is as the bandits continue to unleash terror on innocent citizens in some Communities of Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Jos South, and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau state in renewed attacks since after 2023 General Elections.”

“A group of attackers arrived in a Vectra and opened fire on the victims who were heading home after their daily activities.

“The 8-month-old baby and her father, who were returning from the hospital, tragically met their untimely demise.”

“Prior to this unprovoked attack, several communities in Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Jos South, and Mangu Local Government Areas have suffered deliberate destruction of farmlands and provocative grazing of over 300 hectares of land.”

“Additionally, there have been daily ambushes and kiIling of innocent individuals on motorcycles after Ta-hoss village in Riyom LGA, along the Abuja highway, resulting in the de@th of four people and one injured.”

“The BYM, under the leadership of Solomon Dalyop Mwantiri, Esq., strongly condemns the attack and other forms of provocations inflicted on the innocent people of Plateau since the 2023 General Elections.”

However, the announcement made by the new General Officer Commanding, 3 Armoured Division Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, during an on-the-spot assessment at Sabon Gari, Mangu Local Government Area, presents a ray of hope. He emphasized the need to ruthlessly deal with criminal elements and restore peace to the affected communities in Plateau state and the Joint Operation Area at large.

“We believe that with the commitment from the new GOC to be firm, decisive, and fair to all in discharging the constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property of the citizens,” concluded Tengwong.
