Tinubu Takes Full Responsibility for Current Economic Hardship

President Bola Tinubu expressed his commitment to leading Nigeria through the current economic challenges and acknowledged that the outcomes of his policy reforms are his responsibility. Speaking at a gathering of Afenifere leaders at Pa Reuben Fasoranti’s residence in Akure, Ondo State, Tinubu stated, “Nigeria will survive the current economic challenges. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I requested the job, and I am not complaining about it. I take full responsibility.”

Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, reiterated Tinubu’s stance in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu: I take full responsibility for the nation; we are building an efficient Nigeria that is inclusive and fair to all Nigerians.’

Tinubu emphasized his dedication to steering Nigeria towards economic and social prosperity, reaffirming that Nigeria will overcome the current economic challenges. He reassured the public, “We are meeting our obligations to the international community. To lenders, we have not defaulted, and we are not going to default. We are navigating the twists and bends on the road to Nigeria’s prosperity.”

When discussing reform efforts, Tinubu outlined his focus on ensuring fiscal discipline and true federalism, alongside implementing the philosophy of equality for all. He recognized the understanding and support of Nigerians during these tough economic conditions and promised that their patience and endurance will not be in vain.

Regarding Nigeria’s economy, Tinubu asserted, “We cannot allow Nigeria’s economy to be exploited. We cannot abandon our economy to marauders. I am determined to re-engineer our finances and curb selfish interests permanently.”

Afenifere representative Chief Olu Falae commended Tinubu for his dedication to Nigeria’s progress and received support for his administration’s endeavors. Falae highlighted the importance of fairness and courage, values that embody the Afenifere family.

Moreover, Tinubu visited the family of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, and paid respects at the palace of the Olowo of Owo Kingdom, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III. At the monarch’s palace, Tinubu honored Akeredolu as a statesman and legal luminary who served his people diligently.

He extended prayers for the well-being and prosperity of the traditional ruler and the community, expressing gratitude to the people of Owo for their support to the bereaved family. Accompanied by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Tinubu also consoled the late governor’s widow, Betty, and other family members.

Recently, civic groups like the Joint Action Front and the Coalition for Revolution protested in Lagos State against the rising cost of living and food prices. This demonstration was in response to warnings from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, who assured safety measures would be in place for the protests.

In a separate protest in Ibadan, Oyo State, youths voiced concerns over food prices and economic conditions. Protesters carried placards with messages demanding an end to inflation and government accountability, including messages directed at Tinubu.
