They search the premises of 'X' in France and summon Elon Musk for interrogation

The French authorities have searched this Tuesday the headquarters of the American social network

“A search has been carried out (…) by the anti-cybercrime section of the Paris Prosecutor’s Office, together with the national cyber unit of the Gendarmerie and Europol, within the framework of the investigation opened in January 2025,” the Prosecutor’s Office has announced, which has also specified that it will stop publishing on said social network.

The investigation, in the hands of the General Directorate of the National Gendarmerie (Police) (DGGN), occurs after the receipt of two complaints, on January 12, 2025 and on July 9, 2025.

What is investigated

The investigation was expanded after other complaints that pointed out the operation of Grok’s Artificial Intelligence model on the X platform, which would have caused “the dissemination of denialist content and ‘deepfakes’ of a sexual nature.”

Among the criminal charges being investigated, the Prosecutor’s Office cited “complicity in the possession of pedopornographic images of minors”, “attack against the representation of the person (‘deepfakes’ of a sexual nature)”, “fraudulent extraction of data from an automated data processing system, in an organized gang” and manipulation of algorithms or computer systems.

The Prosecutor’s Office clarified that it has decided to summon those responsible for platform

This is a formal procedural step to find out if the tycoon is finally formally charged. In order not to resort to this type of “free interrogation” it is necessary to present a valid justification.

Musk’s call is set for next April 20, the same date on which Linda Yaccarino, executive director of X, should appear.
