First autonomous agreement between PP and Vox after the electoral cycle, political clash between Puigdemont and Yolanda Díaz, and a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon mark the news. This is how Carlos Alsina summarizes the main news of the day.
Agreement between PP and Vox in Extremadura
The first is the first agreement closed between the PP and Vox at the regional level of this last electoral chain. One hundred and sixteen days later and only thirteen days after the deadline, María Guardiola guarantees herself the necessary votes to once again be the president of Extremadura after the investiture debate that will be held next week, possibly on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The PP assumes Vox’s postulates and undertakes not to accept any more unaccompanied immigrant minors, to work for the expulsion of those who are already in Extremadura without their parents, not to enable new reception centers for immigrants, to eliminate all types of subsidies to NGOs that help illegal immigration (Cáritas care), public aid will go first to those born in Spain and subsidies to unions or business organizations will be cut in half.
In any case, Guardiola affirms that the first commitment of Vox to approve the budgets for this year. It was his refusal to do so that forced the electoral advance. Vox is committed to supporting the budgets of the entire legislature. In exchange for its support, Vox will have a vice presidency who will assume a department that they have named Deregulation, Family and Social Affairs; and a second ministry which is that of Agriculture. In addition, the agreement includes the appointment of someone from Vox as a senator by autonomous appointment.
Clash between Puigdemont and Yolanda Díaz
Puigdemont did not like that Yolanda Díaz repeated in this program – because it is not the first time she has said it – that Junts is a racist and classist party.
Having heard this – or rather read the information about it from the pro-independence press – Puigdemont has published one of his encyclicals on Twitter in which he attacks the second vice president of the government. She talks about moral turpitude, a lack of respect and rigor, calls him a populist and compares him – her and the rest of the government – to Trump a month after wanting to approach him in the belief that it would be possible to achieve independence that would last more than a few seconds.
He doesn’t know us, says Puigdemont. And she invites her to ask the PP next time for the votes to make her vice president.
It is worth remembering that in September 2023 Yolanda Díaz, then acting vice president, went to Brussels to meet with Puigdemont for several hours. And five months later, in an interview with EFE, she acknowledged that she had regular contact with the fugitive.
The candidate for amnesty criticizes that the vice president speaks this way about Junts because as a Spanishist, everyone who speaks Catalan is bourgeois, speculator, Carlist and right-wing. Let’s see if Sánchez has said so much at the beginning of the legislature, Puigdemont has believed that Junts is more left-wing than Rufián.
Ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon
The ceasefire agreed between the governments of Israel and Lebanon, forced by the United States, has been in force for eight hours. Another thing is for Netanyahu to comply with this ten-day truce. In fact, as soon as it was announced yesterday afternoon, it already said that the aerial bombardments would continue.
Local media point out that Hezbollah has taken advantage of the previous hours to attack: leaving two seriously injured in Israel. Once it came into force, the Lebanese army has also denounced that Israel was not respecting it.
Fragile, therefore, a ceasefire to which Benjamin Netanyahu places many conditions. The first, that he does not plan to retire. It is not going to withdraw from the security zone, which it continues to expand, but the main objective of this second truce is to help Donald Trump convince the ayatollahs to sign a definitive peace agreement.
