Thirteen people, including two Spanish tourists, lost their lives this Saturday in Peru when the small plane in which they were traveling crashed. The passengers were on their way to fly over the famous Nazca Lines. Among the deceased are the two crew members of the aircraft, of Peruvian nationality, as well as seven Italians who are members of two families and two Germans, as reported by Peruvian authorities.
The accident occurred shortly after takeoff
The accident occurred around 13:00 local time (18:00 GMT) approximately two kilometers from the Nazca airport, after the plane, from the company Aerodianwould have taken off around noon from the Pisco airport, in the Ica region, with the aim of flying over the geoglyphs of the Nazca Lines.
In a statement, the Ministry of Transport and Communications explained that when the ship, a Cessna Grand Caravan C-208 with capacity for 12 passengers, was flying over the outskirts of the town of Socos, in the district of Pueblo Nuevo, the crew reported an emergency situation to the control tower of the Nazca airfield. After that, all types of radio contact were lost.
Immediately after, The personnel of the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC), the aeronautical firefighters and the National Police mobilized to the area and confirmed that no survivors were found.
The causes of the accident are unknown
Peru’s President Keiko Fujimori told reporters she was deeply sorry for the accident. “The Minister of Transport and Communications is carrying out the corresponding investigation and the chancellor is informing the consulates of the foreign citizens who have lost their lives.”
Likewise, the head of state added that the temporary airport closure from which the Aerodiana company plane departed. For its part, the Prosecutor’s Office indicated that the provincial prosecutor Hugo Umiña immediately moved to the area and ordered the removal of the bodies.

The Aerodiana company expressed its deep regret for the accident and extended his condolences and solidarity to the families of the deceased, in addition to accompanying their pain “with respect and absolute willingness to provide the appropriate support.”
The company added that throughout its 18 years of operation They have maintained a permanent commitment to the safety of their passengers and crew, which is why they noted that this fact “deeply affects them” and reaffirmed their willingness to collaborate with total responsibility in everything that is required by the authorities.
