The motive behind a man setting fire to three churches is linked to his poverty despite prosperity preaching

A 21-year-old man has been arrested by the police for allegedly setting ablaze three churches in Kasokoso Kira Municipality in Wakiso District, Uganda. His motive was attributed to the churches preaching prosperity gospel while not alleviating his poverty.

Following his arrest, the suspect, John Reagan Ngobi, expressed his anger at being in poverty despite the teachings of the churches. He admitted to purchasing two liters of petrol and paraffin, using them to set fire to the churches with the aim of burning them down completely.

Daily Monitor reported the affected churches as St Noah Catholic Church Kasokoso led by Rev Father Mathias Mulumba Kalemba, Liberty Church of Christ International led by Pastor Bageya Vincent, and God’s Tour Promising Church led by Pastor Odinga Kadika Nandere.

The police reported damage to church property, including items such as church books, curtains, and furniture. Mr. Ngobi, who turned himself in at Kira Division, was found in possession of knives for self-defense.
