NPFL to Revise Players’ Salary Structure

Plans are underway in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to increase the minimum wage for players in the league to an unspecified amount from the current N150,000.

NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, has emphasized the need to reassess the players’ salaries due to the prevailing economic conditions in Nigeria.

He reaffirmed the league’s dedication to the well-being of the players and expressed dissatisfaction with clubs that still remunerate below the N150,000 threshold.

“Currently, the lowest pay for NPFL players stands at N150,000. However, we are planning to raise this figure in the upcoming season as we have observed that some clubs are not meeting this standard. Some players agree to these lower payments just to secure spots in such clubs,” he explained.

“This is why maintaining accurate financial records is now part of our clubs’ accreditation process.

“We will assess each club’s payment structures to ensure that players’ salaries are channelled through bank accounts,” he added.
