Thomas Tuchel explains decision to substitute Harry Kane in UCL match against Real Madrid

The choice to replace Harry Kane during Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final defeat to Real Madrid was explained by manager Thomas Tuchel.

Bayern Munich seemed on track to reach an all-German final after taking a 3-2 aggregate lead at the Bernabeu with a goal from Alphonso Davies.

However, Real Madrid staged a late comeback, shocking Bayern Munich and securing a spot in the final as they chase their 15th European Cup.

Despite Manuel Neuer’s impressive saves throughout the match, he made a crucial mistake in the final minutes by spilling an easy catch, allowing Joselu to equalize in the 88th minute.

“We began with a front four, but all four had to be substituted due to injuries or cramps,” explained Tuchel in an interview with TNT Sports.

“Kane was struggling with back issues, and it was impossible for him to continue. All the front four players indicated they needed to be substituted.”
