The Governor of Kano State Suspended by NNPP Faction for Six Months

Reactions from Kwankwasiyya movement to the suspension

Six months suspension has been handed down to the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, by the faction of New Nigeria Peoples Party led by Major Agbo. This decision comes after his failure to appear before a disciplinary committee and defend allegations of violating the party’s constitution.

During a press briefing in Abuja, the National Secretary of the faction, Ogini Olaposi, announced Yusuf’s suspension, highlighting that the Board of Trustees made the decision in the party’s best interest.

Expressing their concerns, Olaposi mentioned the governor’s involvement in an ‘illegal national convention’ organized by the Kwankwasiya group in Abuja, raising questions about his commitment to NNPP principles.

“The New Nigeria People’s Party wanted to address the situation regarding Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s failure to appear before the Disciplinary Committee and his participation in an unauthorized national convention held by the Kwankwasiya group. As per the NNPP Constitution 2022, we are left with no choice but to suspend him for six months,” Olaposi explained.

Reacting to the suspension, the National Secretary of the Kwankwasiyya faction, Dipo Olayoku, dismissed it as a farce orchestrated by individuals who had been ousted from the party. He questioned the legitimacy of the suspension, emphasizing that those behind it lacked the authority to make such decisions.

“How can non-members of NNPP suspend a governor? They are merely seeking attention and causing amusement. Without legitimate party status, their actions hold no weight,” Olayoku commented.
