Scholz and Trump agree on the need to end the war in Ukraine soon

The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, spoke by telephone this Thursday with the American president-elect, Donald Trump, with whom he agreed according to Berlin on the need to achieve a just peace in Ukraine as soon as possible.

“The two agreed that the Russian war against Ukraine has already lasted too long and that now it is about reaching a path to a just and lasting peace as soon as possible,” a Scholz spokesman said in a brief statement.

The central topic of the conversation was the challenges for security in Europe, according to the note.

“The chancellor reiterated again that he will maintain support for Ukraine in its defense against the Russian war of aggression for as long as necessary,” the spokesperson concluded.
