The call by Niger Assembly for decisive action against the culprits behind youth restiveness

In response to the recent eruption of youth restiveness in Minna, the capital of Niger State, members of the Niger State House of Assembly have emphasized the need for urgent and decisive actions against the individuals and groups responsible for instigating the unrest.

Speaking during a plenary session following a one-month recess for Easter and Sallah celebrations, the Speaker, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, expressed deep concern over the resurgence of youth restiveness in Minna.

He highlighted the potential threat posed by the escalating situation on the progress made by the current administration in maintaining security and law enforcement in the state.

Commending Governor Umar Mohammed Bago and the security agencies for their swift response in addressing the unrest, Sarkindaji underscored the necessity for taking strong action against both the perpetrators and sponsors of the violent activities.

Additionally, Sarkindaji raised the issue of potential deterrence to investors considering the state due to the prevailing conducive environment, given the recent disturbances caused by the rogue elements.

He announced the intention of the Niger State House of Assembly to review and strengthen the existing legislation against thuggery in a bid to provide the security agencies with enhanced capabilities to tackle the unrest effectively.

Stressing the responsibility of the assembly as representatives of the people, Sarkindaji emphasized the urgency of containing the current wave of youth restiveness before it escalates further.

As a result, the assembly made a decision to convene a meeting on Monday, bringing together the heads of various security agencies and other key stakeholders to collectively devise strategies to address the ongoing situation.
