Violent Clash in Kwara Community Results in the Razing of Two Buildings

On Tuesday in Eyenkorin, Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, two buildings were completely destroyed during a violent clash involving several groups in the area.

The state fire service spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle, reported from Ilorin that firefighters were alerted to the situation around 4:50 hours. Upon arrival, they discovered two structures engulfed in flames.

Describing the incident, Hassan said, “One building, consisting of six rooms, and another with four rooms, were entirely consumed by the fire, leaving behind only ruins. This unfortunate event serves as a grim reminder of the catastrophic outcomes of violence and animosity.”

Investigations conducted revealed a disturbing revelation: the fire was intentionally ignited by rival factions engaged in a deadly confrontation.

“Tragically, one life was lost, leading to the aggrieved group seeking retribution by targeting the residence of the opposing group’s leader, resulting in the destruction of two homes. Shockingly, the attackers prevented occupants and sympathizers from extinguishing the fire, ensuring maximum devastation,” Hassan disclosed.

Thankfully, the prompt response of the fire brigade and the Divisional Police Station prevented further destruction. Nevertheless, the incident underscores the severe repercussions of violence and hostility.

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the director of the state fire service, extended condolences to the affected families and urged parents and guardians to instill positive values in their children to foster a secure and harmonious society.

He stressed the significance of community unity and peaceful conflict resolution, highlighting that resorting to violence only amplifies suffering and devastation.
