Test results for suspected Coronavirus patient in Enugu come back negative

Reports emerged over the weekend indicating that a resident of Enugu state had displayed symptoms of Coronavirus.

The individual in question was promptly placed in quarantine by officials from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and subsequently underwent testing. The test results, announced last night, returned negative.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) revealed this development in a Sunday night tweet.

“The laboratory result of the patient in Enugu suspected to have #COVID19 is NEGATIVE. It is important to wait for confirmation from NCDC before spreading information on social media. NCDC will continue to provide updates to the public,” the tweet stated.

To date, Nigeria has confirmed two cases of the virus, with no reported fatalities.

According to NCDC, the index case remains clinically stable at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Yaba, Lagos, and an additional sample has been collected for retesting.

The second confirmed case, identified as a contact of the index case, was discharged on Friday after testing negative in two consecutive tests.
