Teenager remanded in custody for allegedly defiling 5-year-old girl

A 19-year-old named Tochukwu Akalogwu has been ordered to be remanded by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for the alleged defilement of a five-year-old schoolgirl.

Reports from the News Agency of Nigeria state that Akalogwu was charged by the police for defiling a minor.

The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, refrained from taking Akalogwu’s plea, citing the court’s lack of jurisdiction over the case.

As a result, Kubeinje instructed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal guidance.

The matter has been adjourned until May 28 for further proceedings.

During the court session, the Prosecution Counsel, SP Kehinde Ajayi, informed that Akalogwu, who works at Hope Primary School in Badagry, allegedly committed the offense on April 3.

Ajayi stated that the defendant reportedly forced sexual intercourse upon the minor at the school.

This act is said to violate the stipulations of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
