PDP Refuses to Participate in Yobe LG Election

Yobe’s Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has announced its decision to boycott the upcoming local government elections scheduled for May 25, 2024. The Party’s State Organizing Secretary, Mohammed Sulayman, made this declaration during a press briefing in Damaturu.

According to Sulayman, the party’s choice to abstain from the election was made after thorough consultations. He criticized the lack of fairness and impartiality in past local government elections in Yobe State under the state commission’s supervision.

He stated, “It is evident in the history of our beloved Yobe State that Local Government Council elections have never been conducted freely and fairly under the state commission. We believe that this time will not be an exception.”

Accusing the State Independent Electoral Commission of non-disclosure and unfair practices, Sulayman claimed that political parties were not adequately informed of the election activities’ timeline. He further alleged that the high fees for form purchases were a deliberate attempt to hinder other political parties from participating in the election.

It should be noted that the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission has set May 25, 2024, as the date for the local government councils’ election.
