Protest by NLC Members Leads to Closure of KEDCO and NERC Offices in Kano
On Monday, a large group of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) members took action by shutting down the offices of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) in protest against the recent increase in power tariffs nationwide.
In a related move, the organized Labour also picketed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) offices in Kano for the same reason.
Workers of KEDCO and NERC were prevented from entering their offices by the protesting NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) members.
Chanting solidarity songs, the aggrieved protesters stood at the entrance of the KEDCO head office holding placards with inscriptions such as “Stop Suffocating Us,” “Cut Down the Reckless Cost of Governance,” and “The Poor Can No Longer Breathe.”
