Sanusi's Investigation: Kano Assembly suspends 5 members for attempting to snatch the mace during plenary session

The Kano State House of Assembly has taken action by suspending five of its members for their involvement in attempting to snatch the mace during a plenary session. Last week’s disruption led to a free-for-all fight between members of the APC and PDP at the assembly complex as they vied for control of the mace, the symbol of parliamentary authority. This incident occurred as a committee set up to investigate former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was about to submit its report.

During today’s session, Speaker Hon. Abdulazeez Gafasa announced the suspension of the lawmakers involved in the fracas for a period of 6 months due to their misconduct and violation of the house rules. The suspended members include Garba Yau Gwarmai representing Kunchi/Tsanyawa Constituency, Labaran Abdul Madari representing Warawa Constituency, Isyaku Ali Danja representing Gezawa Constituency, Mohammed Bello representing Rimingado/Tofa constituency, and Salisu Ahmed Gwamgwazo representing Kano Municipal.

Gafasa highlighted the reasons for their suspension, citing violations of Order IV Sub 4A, B, D, and E, disruptive behavior during the sitting, and an attempt to snatch the mace, which he described as a clear attempt to sabotage the session.
