Rivers United secures important victory over Katsina United to ease relegation concerns

A crucial 2-0 win for Rivers United against Katsina United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Thursday night has significantly boosted their chances of remaining in the NPFL.

Stanley Eguma, the head coach of the hosts, opted to maintain the same lineup that secured victory over Rangers in their previous match.

Deputy Echeta, a former Remo Stars forward, broke the deadlock for the home side with a header from Andy Okpe’s delivery just before halftime.

Nine minutes before the final whistle, Kazie Enyinnaya skillfully converted Okpe’s pass to extend Rivers United’s lead to two goals.

This victory propels Rivers United to the 12th spot in the league standings as they prepare for a neighboring clash against Bayelsa United in Yenagoa on Monday.

Meanwhile, Katsina United will head to Aba this Sunday to take on reigning champions Enyimba in their upcoming matchday 32 fixture.
