Declaring No Crisis in Rivers, Governor Fubara Emphasizes Commitment to Good Governance

The assertion made by Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State is that there is currently no crisis in the state. Instead, he highlighted that his administration’s main focus is on providing effective governance to the people of Rivers State.

During an engagement with members of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara expressed confidence that the political pressures faced will only bolster his administration’s dedication to public service.

Reflecting on the impact of pressure on individuals, Fubara referenced a movie scene involving Al Pacino from the film ‘Devil’s Advocate’, where the actor remarked on how pressure can either debilitate or drive individuals towards success. Choosing the latter path, Fubara affirmed, “That is why we are moving ahead. That is why we are making a positive impact on the lives of our people. Governance is about the people. It is not about self.”

He also added, “Governance is about addressing the fundamental needs of the populace we lead, and through divine grace, we are fulfilling this obligation.”

Following a fallout with his predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, after assuming office as governor, speculations arose linking their differences to the oversight of the state’s political and financial realms.

Though a peace agreement was brokered following intervention from President Bola Tinubu, tensions have persisted, prolonging the perceived crisis between the two leaders.
