Revamp in African Football: CAF to Discontinue Confederation Cup and Prioritize African Football League

Reports suggest that CAF is planning to eliminate its second-tier club tournament, the Confederation Cup.

The Confederation Cup originated in 2004 through the consolidation of the CAF Cup and the African Cup Winners’ Cup.

Last year, CAF inaugurated the African Football League, which started with eight teams and will now see an expansion to include more participants.

Now slated to become the primary club competition in Africa, the African Football League will be the focal point after the removal of the Confederation Cup.

As a result, the CAF Champions League will step in to fill the void left by the Confederation Cup as Africa’s secondary club contest.

The victor of the African Football League will secure the continent’s representation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
