Rescue Operation: Baby Found in Polythene Bag in Lagos

In a heartwarming incident, a newborn baby boy was discovered abandoned in a polythene bag on Alhaji Masha Road in Lagos State’s Surulere area.

According to PUNCH Metro, a social worker from a Surulere hospital found the baby’s cries coming from the bag while on her way somewhere. Upon investigating, she found the infant and promptly took him to Randle General Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Reports indicate that the baby is responding well to treatment. Additionally, the Divisional Police Officer and a team from the family support unit visited the scene of the incident.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer, verified the event.

He explained, “A report was made at Surulere Division regarding the abandonment of a day-old baby in a polythene bag by unknown individuals on April 15, 2024, around 1:40pm, by a social worker.

“The baby has been found and is under medical care. Further investigations are ongoing, with the Divisional Police Officer and family support unit team already on the scene.”

PUNCH Metro also highlighted a similar case where a day-old baby was discovered in a carton in Zone ‘B’ Area in Dagbolu, Osun State in December 2023.
