A plea for clemency has been made by around 100 inmates, which includes individuals on death row at the Kano Correctional Centre. They have approached both the state government and the state Committee on Prerogative of Mercy for leniency.

Additionally, other inmates seeking clemency comprise individuals serving life sentences, those with extended sentences, inmates facing severe medical issues, elderly inmates, and more.

This information was disclosed by the state Correctional Centre Public Relations Officer, Musbahu Mata, in a statement released on Thursday.

As per the statement, the list of inmates requesting clemency was presented by the controller of the state command, Suleiman Inuwa, to the Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy Committee, Hajiya Bebeji, subsequent to the committee’s visit to the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Janguzu, Kano.

In the statement, Bebeji reassured the inmates that their conditions would be examined by the government based on their good behavior and industry while in custody.

She urged all inmates to adhere to the rules of the custodial center and contribute positively to themselves and society.

The controller expressed gratitude to Bebeji for her role in supporting the Iftar feeding program at the facility.
