President Tinubu Designates April 7 as National Police Day

On Monday night at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, President Bola Tinubu announced that April 7 has been designated as National Police Day. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu during the inaugural Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony.

In his speech, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of transforming the police force into a modern, professional, and accountable institution by completely changing the institutional mentality and memory of police officers. He highlighted the extensive reforms initiated by his administration since taking office in 2023 to revitalize the nation’s police force.

Tinubu stressed the significance of providing training and capacity-building to police officers to equip them with the necessary expertise for modern policing. He also revealed that the Federal Government has approved the first week of April as the police week, with April 7th designated as the National Police Day.

President Tinubu expressed his admiration for the bravery and dedication of the police force, acknowledging their role as the protectors of the nation and emphasizing the need to humanize and support them in their duties.

He commended the police for their resilience in the face of security threats, stating that their valour represents the highest level of patriotism that unites the nation and instills confidence in a brighter future. As part of the comprehensive reforms, the administration has invested in training and capacity-building for the police force.
