Brad Friedel advises Arsenal player to seek new club

In a recent statement, former Tottenham Hotspur player Brad Friedel recommended Aaron Ramsdale to consider leaving Arsenal this summer, emphasizing that the goalkeeper would benefit from playing elsewhere.

Speaking on the goalkeeper situation at Arsenal, Friedel also shed light on why manager Mikel Arteta has shown a preference for David Raya over Ramsdale at the Premier League North London club.

Ramsdale, who was the primary goalkeeper for Arteta’s team last season, played a crucial role in Arsenal’s challenge for the Premier League title.

However, Arteta made the decision to bring in Raya on loan from Brentford last summer, resulting in the Spain international taking over as the first-choice goalkeeper at the Emirates Stadium.

Reflecting on the situation, Friedel shared his insights with Sky Sports, saying, “The statistics seem to support Mikel Arteta’s choice. Both goalkeepers are highly skilled, but the data shows a clear difference in David Raya’s ability to prevent shots.”

He added, “Raya’s agility and quick reactions, especially in dealing with crosses and sweeping up, have been exceptional. This aspect seems to favor him over Aaron Ramsdale, considering Arsenal’s style of play.”

Further expressing his view, Friedel stated, “While Arsenal’s trust in Raya seems justified by stats, Ramsdale is a talented player who deserves regular playing time. He should actively seek opportunities elsewhere, given his abilities. Both keepers are remarkably skilled.”
