Police in Edo State arrest two individuals posing as Inspectors in connection with N20m worth of drugs

Authorities in Edo State Police Command have apprehended two fake police inspectors over their involvement in a drug crime worth N20 million in the area.

Speaking to reporters in Benin City, Commissioner of Police Funsho Adegboye revealed that these individuals were part of a five-member criminal group that specialized in dealing illicit drugs.

The two suspects identified as Alex Akaeze, 39, and Kadiri Hassan, 45, were named along with three other accomplices – Ovie Samuel, 46; Stanley Itota, 45; and Felix Oputi, 46.

Adegboye detailed that the arrests were made by the Command’s Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad at a guest house managed by Samuel on Colobus Street in Benin City.

The illegal drug, known as ‘ice’, weighed 1,080 kilograms and was estimated to be valued at N20 million.

An investigation is currently underway, with plans to charge the suspects in court soon.

One of the suspects, Akaeze, claimed to have joined the Police Force in 2009. He insisted that he is a Police Inspector and shared details of his various assignments.

Similarly, Kadiri Hassan, who also maintained that he is a Police Inspector, mentioned joining the force in 2008 and provided insights into his recent transfer.

Ovie Samuel, who was involved in procuring the illicit drug, denied any knowledge of the trade and expressed surprise upon discovering the true identities of the individuals he was dealing with.
