Clash Between Police and Shi’ite Protesters Leads to Two Injured and One Fatality at National Assembly
During a clash at the National Assembly gate, the Nigerian Police Force confronted Shi’ite protesters, resulting in one fatality.
The Shi’ite group had planned to protest the continued detention of Sheik Elzakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, at the National Assembly.
Despite being granted bail by a court, Elzakzaky remains in custody due to security concerns cited by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The clash occurred at 1:15 pm on Tuesday, as the police were already stationed at the National Assembly gate, anticipating the arrival of the protesters.
Two individuals were shot during the protest, and the Shi’ites were seen carrying away the body of a 15-year-old boy.
