Nigerian govt pledges restoration of electricity in eight LGAs in Sokoto

Following a decade-long absence of electricity, the federal government of Nigeria has announced its commitment to restoring power to eight local government areas in Sokoto State.

The pledge was made by the Minister of Power, Adelabu Adebayo, in response to a request raised by State Governor Ahmed Aliyu during an official meeting.

Subsequently, a team from the Ministry of Power was dispatched to assess the situation in the affected areas and work on reinstating electricity supply.

During an assessment exercise conducted in Sokoto over the weekend, the Director of Distribution at the Federal Ministry of Power, Mustafa Baba Umarah, highlighted that the government’s team would thoroughly analyze the issues causing the blackout and provide a comprehensive report for necessary actions.

He emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring universal access to electricity for all citizens, irrespective of their geographical location.

In support of the efforts to boost economic activities, especially in rural regions, the State’s Commissioner for Energy, Sanusi Dan Fulani, reiterated the significance of restoring electricity in the affected areas.

He emphasized the pivotal role of electricity in driving societal development within the state’s eastern zone, also known as the food basket.

The Commissioner urged the communities set to benefit from the restoration project to extend their cooperation to ensure the success of the initiative.

He further elaborated, “The eight local government areas identified for reconnection to the national grid include Isa, Sabon Birni, Goronyo, Wurno, Rabah, Gada, Illela, and Gwadabawa.”
