NPA Introduces New Export Trucks Access Window to Address Congestion

To alleviate congestion and facilitate the timely entry of export cargo into Lagos Ports, the Nigerian Ports Authority has established a 72-hour window for all export trucks to reach different terminals.

Any export cargo trucks that do not access the ports within the specified time will have their access tickets automatically deactivated, as announced by the NPA. This new access window policy will be implemented starting from April 22.

Under the notice titled, ‘Important Update: Revised Access Window for Left-Pregated Export Trucks,’ which was signed by the management of Truck Transit Parks Limited on behalf of the NPA, the agency clarified that the objective of this new policy is to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion on the port access roads.

“An important notice has been issued by the Nigerian Ports Authority to all stakeholders in the port ecosystem. Starting Monday, April 22, 2024, a policy will be enforced regarding access to the port terminals for left-pregated export trucks.”

“After departing from the Export Processing Terminal, all left-pregated export trucks must access the designated terminal within 72 hours. Failure to do so will lead to the automatic deactivation of the truck’s access ticket,” stated in the notice.

Truckers are strongly advised to plan their routes to arrive at the port within the specified timeframe.
