Onakoya made the announcement of this monumental task on his X account with the simple caption, “Game time.”
The challenging event is currently unfolding in New York City’s iconic Times Square, having commenced at 10am on Wednesday, April 17, and is expected to conclude at 8pm on April 19.
With a goal to play for an impressive 58 hours without facing a single defeat, Onakoya is fully immersed in the intense chess marathon.
The current Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon is held by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway, who achieved a remarkable feat of 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds on November 11, 2018.
