The Call for Inclusion of Experts in the Arts and Creative Sector by NANTAP

Advocating for the involvement of key industry players in the development of the arts and creative sector, the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP), FCT chapter, Olukayode Aiyegbusi, emphasized the importance of engaging experts in this field.

His remarks were made during an interview at a theatre event held to commemorate the 2024 World Theatre Day in Abuja. The event, which took place at the Cyprian Ekwensi Cultural Centre, brought together stakeholders in the arts, culture, and creative space, as well as theatre groups, university students, and enthusiasts.

Aiyegbusi highlighted the potential of the arts and creative sector in contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth, suggesting that effective management of this sector could lead to significant prosperity. He called on all levels of government to demonstrate political will and provide leadership in involving industry practitioners in shaping programs and policies for the sector.

Under the local theme “Unbundling the Creative Economy for a Sustainable Future,” Aiyegbusi underscored the need for collaboration between the government and industry experts to drive the sector forward.

He stressed the importance of the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy in empowering the youth for a better future, urging a more practical approach that involves industry practitioners in decision-making processes.

Highlighting the significance of theatre in generating income and creating employment opportunities, Aiyegbusi urged governments at all levels to promote investments in the establishment of theatres across the country to foster job creation.

In his closing remarks, Aiyegbusi emphasized the societal benefits of theatre beyond its entertainment value and called for a widespread distribution of theatres in various communities to spur economic growth and community engagement.
