Man gets one-year jail term for inheritance fraud

In a recent court case handled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Maiduguri Zonal Command, Isiyaku Ibrahim was found guilty of criminal misappropriation and sentenced by Justice Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court.

Isiyaku Ibrahim faced a single charge related to misappropriating N12 million.

On Tuesday, the anti-graft agency shared details of the case through its official communication channel.

The fraud scheme involved several properties, including three houses, two fenced lands (one with seven shops), two bread factories, an open land, two truck tankers, and a large generator.

The charge brought against Isiyaku Ibrahim reads: In a period spanning from 2014 to 2019, at Jajere Baga Road, Maiduguri, Borno State, Isiyaku Ibrahim and Mallam Ibrahim, who were entrusted with managing the properties belonging to the late Muhammad Isiyaku, unlawfully misappropriated assets totaling N12,000,000.00. This act deprived the deceased’s family members of their rightful inheritance, thus contravening section 308 of the Penal Code Cap 102 Laws of Borno State and punishable under section 309 of the same law.

Justice Fadawu handed down a verdict, sentencing Ibrahim to one year in prison or a fine of N100,000.
