The Power Minister Warns of Impending Darkness in Nigeria Without Tariff Increase

A clear message from the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu to Nigerians: Embrace the tariff hike or brace for massive power cuts.

Issuing a stern caution on Monday, Adelabu emphasized that failure to implement the proposed electricity tariff increase would result in a countrywide blackout within the next three months.

Addressing the Senate Committee on Power during an inquiry into the recent tariff adjustments by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory, the minister stressed the urgency of the situation.

“Without the tariff hike, the entire power sector will come to a standstill,” he emphasized.

“In the coming three months, we risk plunging the nation into darkness if we do not raise tariffs.

“This increase is crucial for our progress. As Nigerians, we are not immune to the effects either,” he added.
