Legal Action Taken Against Two Social Media Users for Sharing Nude Photo of Socialite

A socialite, Dorcas Adeyinka, has taken legal action by summoning two social media users in the Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 6, for accusations of “criminal defamation”.

The court summons, dated May 9, 2024, and seen by our correspondent, directs the defendants – Tolulope Adeoye, known as Abike Jagaban, and Tolulope Odegbami, known as Olowosibi – to appear in person before the court on June 4, 2024 to respond to the charges brought against them by the complainant.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the complainant’s legal team led by Pelumi Olajengbesi from the Law Corridor law firm based in Abuja, the defendants are accused of sharing the socialite’s nude photo on social media in a manner that subjected her to ridicule.

Allegations include Abike Jagaban sharing the complainant’s nude images on Youtube on March 5, 2022, and directing followers to various online platforms where the pictures were distributed, leading to derogatory comments against the complainant.

The complainant stated that these actions exposed her to contempt and detestation, with disparaging remarks being made against her on the shared post.

In addition, the defendants allegedly spread unfounded claims on social media linking the complainant to the death of an individual named Folusho Asimiyu, also known as ‘Iya Ibeji’, without any evidence.

These actions are considered by the complainant as criminal defamation, violating Sections 391 of the Penal Code.

The Chief Magistrate, Emmanuel Iyanna, in Suit No CR/93/2024 with Motion No: MN/140/2024, instructed the complainant to serve the defendants with the criminal summons and all court processes via their social media handles at @Tolulope Omolara Ghaba (Facebook) and @Princess Tolulope Ajike Olowosibi (Facebook).

The case has been adjourned to June 4, 2024, and the presence of both defendants in court on that date is mandatory.
