JAMB Directs Security Agencies: Apprehend Any Parent Approaching CBT Centers During 2024 UTME

During the forthcoming 2024 UTME exercise, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, known as JAMB, has issued an order to all owners of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers to detain any parent discovered near their facilities.

At the final briefing of CBT center owners on Wednesday, the Board’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, delivered the directive. He emphasized that this order was deemed necessary due to the intrusive behavior exhibited by some parents during JAMB’s previous examinations.

Citing JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Benjamin stated that any parent found disobeying the directive would not only face arrest but also have their child barred from participating in the examination.

It was mentioned that this measure is crucial as it has been observed that many of these interfering parents have been involved in exam malpractices or have disrupted previous examinations conducted by the Board.

Some unauthorized individuals have also posed as parents to gain access to the centers and commit various fraudulent acts,” according to Benjamin.

Oloyede revealed that JAMB has instructed security personnel to collaborate with the centers to apprehend any meddling parent who approaches the vicinity, highlighting that in accordance with the national education policy, candidates must be at least 17 years old to take the examination.

“It is apparent that these parents have neglected to ensure their children receive proper education, choosing instead to accompany them to the examination venue with the intention of influencing examination officials,” voiced Oloyede.

He urged center owners to view their responsibilities as a national commitment rather than solely a profit-making endeavor, urging them to identify and report any unethical individuals among them.
