Investigation Launched by FAAN to Determine Cause of Fire at Lagos Airport

Following a fire incident on Thursday at the E54 bridge of the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Ikeja, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has initiated an investigation to identify the cause.

A statement released by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, disclosed that measures to clear the smoke from the building are currently underway.

The discovery of smoke emanating from the E54 passenger Bridge prompted the immediate shutdown of power to the entire E Wing by electrical engineers.

Responding rapidly, the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) team arrived at the scene by 5:30 a.m.

Although initial suspicions suggest sparks from an electrical unit may have triggered the fire, a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause.

By 6:41 a.m., the escalating fire had been successfully contained.

While efforts to ventilate the building continue, all flight operations in Terminal 1 of the MMA have been redirected to the D Wing.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
