Glen Johnson wants Chelsea to consider signing Manchester United star, Varane

A former Chelsea player and defender, Glen Johnson, is advocating for the Blues to secure Raphael Varane from Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Manchester United made the decision not to extend Varane’s contract in the middle of the current season.

Varane, who switched from Real Madrid to the Red Devils in 2024, may depart from Old Trafford as a free agent in the summer.

The French player is currently out of action due to injury and has been associated with a potential return to Real Madrid in the summer.

Nevertheless, Johnson desires for Mauricio Pochettino’s team to bring the 30-year-old to Stamford Bridge, emphasizing that it would be a beneficial move for the west London club.

“Players of his caliber are rare, especially on a free transfer,” mentioned Johnson in a discussion with Betfred regarding Chelsea’s potential signing of Varane.

“While I acknowledge that he may not be the same Varane he was three or four years ago, he remains an exceptional player.”

“Certainly, he has faced injury setbacks, but that should not overshadow the advantage of acquiring him for no transfer fee. Even if he only participates in 40% of the matches, it still presents a solid deal,” he added.

“If you have the opportunity to secure Varane on a free transfer with him playing in just half of the games, I believe it’s a worthwhile deal,” Johnson concluded.
