Appeal from Governor of Bauchi for a Change in Police Dress Code to Encourage Participation of Northern Women

The Governor of Bauchi State, Sen Bala Mohammed, has urged the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to reevaluate its dress code to foster greater involvement of women, particularly from Northern regions.

He also advocates for a revision of some operational directives of the NPF to promote the recruitment of Northern women.

During a meeting at the Bauchi Government House, Mohammed made this plea while hosting Elizabeth Egbetokun, the wife of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and also the President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA).

The governor emphasized that the current policies do not effectively encourage women from the North to join the police force, largely because of cultural and religious differences.

He commended Elizabeth Egbetokun for her efforts in implementing impactful initiatives to empower women across various sectors of society.

Egbetokun, in her remarks, mentioned that she visited the state to brief the governor about a new program called the Initiative of Young Women in Agriculture, which is part of the Police Agricultural Empowerment initiative.

She encouraged women in the state to take advantage of this program to enhance the economic status of their families by actively participating in agricultural activities.

Egbetokun praised Governor Bala Mohammed for his exceptional contributions to education, health, and agriculture in the state.
