The Lagos state police command arrested actress Funke Akindele-Bello on Sunday April 5th for violating the social distancing order of the Lagos state government. She spent the night at the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID office in Panti, Lagos.
A police source confirmed that the actress’s husband, Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, who was not available when she was picked up, has turned himself in and is currently with her in Panti. They are expected to be arraigned in court this morning.
Other guests at the party, including singer Naira Marley, have been asked to report at the SCID for questioning.
According to the Lagos Infection Diseases Regulations 2020, anyone found guilty of hosting gatherings or flouting the lockdown order could face a jail term of one month, a fine of N100,000, or both.
The regulation empowers security agencies to arrest without warrant and detain violators for at least 48 hours. If found guilty, the individual may face a fine of N100,000, one month imprisonment, or three months’ community service.
The severity of the penalties has raised questions about whether they are appropriate or excessive.
