Delay in Arraignment of Ganduje, Wife, and 6 Others

On Wednesday, the scheduled arraignment of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), was postponed due to the Kano State Government’s failure to serve him with court papers.

Dr. Ganduje, along with his wife Hafsat and six others, including Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, and three companies, faced eight counts of alleged bribery, misappropriation, and diversion of billions of Naira in public funds.

During the court session, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Y. A. Adamu, informed the court that their attempts to serve the respondents had been unsuccessful.

“We were only able to serve Lamash Properties Limited, the 6th defendant,” he stated.

The prosecution then sought permission to serve the remaining respondents through alternative means.

Addressing the court, counsel to the 6th defendant, Nureini Jimoh, SAN, contested the prosecution’s ex parte application, stating that it was not applicable in criminal cases.

Justice Usman Na’abba adjourned the case until April 29 for the hearing of the motion on notice, emphasizing the need for proper notification of the respondents before proceeding.
