Cubana Chief Priest Shows Up at Court for Naira Abuse Charges

Entrepreneur of nightlife, Okechukwu Paschal, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has made an appearance at the Federal High Court in Lagos as he faces trial.

Accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of naira abuse, Cubana Chief Priest was brought to the court by EFCC officials accompanied by armed police escorts around 8:45 am on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, EFCC lodged a three-count accusation against the social media personality.

In a document filed on April 4th by EFFC’s prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, together with seven other legal representatives of the Commission, it stated:

“On the 13th of February 2024, at Eko Hotel, within the court’s jurisdiction, while participating in a social event, you interfered with funds in the form of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) bills issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by showering them for two hours, thereby committing an offence, as per Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.”

“At some point in 2020, in Lagos during a social gathering, you tampered with N500 (Five Hundred Naira) bills issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying them for two hours, in violation of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.”

“In January 2024, in Lagos during a social function, you tampered with N500 (Five Hundred Naira) bills issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying them, hence committing an offence contravening Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.”
