Challenges Faced by Commercial Tricyclists in Delta State

Operating at Enerhen Junction in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, commercial tricycle operators are expressing dissatisfaction with the sale of operational tickets and stickers at N3,500 by individuals falsely representing themselves as state government agents.

In an interview with NewsNow, a tricyclist known as Joshua highlighted the significant issue the high cost of these tickets and stickers poses to their business.

Joshua emphasized that many operators struggle to afford these expenses due to the burden of high taxation impacting their livelihoods.

He called on the government to intervene by lowering the prices of these tickets and stickers, as well as addressing the activities of touts and alleged extortion by police personnel.

Sharing his concerns, Joshua expressed, “The Keke business is facing challenges with rising costs, making it hard for us to even afford a decent meal because of the government’s strict measures. The presence of touts is a constant nuisance.”

Another tricyclist, Jeremiah Utonraye, supported his colleague’s statements by recounting the daily ₦100 extortion by police officers in Orhunwhorhun at the Enerhen junction.

Jeremiah appealed to the authorities to intervene and alleviate the stress faced by tricyclists in the region.
