Bwala Criticizes EFCC for Declaring Yahaya Bello as Wanted

Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for the now-defunct Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, has voiced his disagreement with the decision made by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to declare former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, as wanted.

Bwala expressed his belief that the EFCC possesses all necessary tools to apprehend Bello, making the declaration of him as wanted unnecessary.

He questioned why the EFCC did not handle Bello in a similar manner to how they dealt with former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.

Yahaya Bello was declared wanted by the EFCC in connection to an alleged case of money laundering amounting to N80.2 billion.

The anti-corruption agency has mentioned to the Federal High Court in Abuja its contemplation of involving the Nigerian Army in arresting Bello.

Following their unsuccessful attempt to arrest the former governor during a raid on his Abuja residence, the EFCC sought the assistance of Bello’s successor, Governor Usman Ododo, which resulted in Bello eluding arrest.

Ever since the incident in Abuja, the ex-governor’s whereabouts have remained unknown, prompting the EFCC to issue a wanted notice for him.

In response, Bwala posted on X, “Unless EFCC and Yaya Bello are both engaged in a simulation for a movie portraying the agency and former governors, the press statement labeled ‘wanted’ is unnecessary.”

“You attempted to arrest him at his residence but failed to follow the Administration of Criminal Justice Act or employ what you did with Okorocha at his residence.”

“You witnessed his removal from the scene but did not intervene.”

“Both he and the current governor are under the protection of police and SSS security details who are obligated to report activities, including the whereabouts of their VIPs, to their respective commands—indicating that his location is not concealed.”

“You are requesting information from the public regarding someone whose whereabouts you should already be aware of. Please carry out your duties without sensationalism.”
