EFCC Boss Emphasizes the Importance of Rules and Regulations to Combat Corruption

Encouraging compliance with societal rules and regulations is crucial, according to Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the executive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Olukoyede highlighted that non-compliance with established rules is the primary cause of corruption within the country.

During a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Compliance Institute, Nigeria (CIN), led by President Pattison Boleigha, to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, the statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale quoted Olukoyede making this assertion.

He emphasized the Commission’s commitment to enforcement and compliance, stating their readiness to enforce the law on those who disregard the rules.

Olukoyede emphasized, “The cornerstone of progress in any society lies in compliance. The stark difference between developed and underdeveloped nations boils down to their adherence to compliance. Without compliance, developed countries would resemble underdeveloped ones. Achieving compliance is the key to good governance and corporate practices in Nigeria.”

Prior to Olukoyede’s remarks, Boleigha expressed that the purpose of the visit was to engage in collaborative efforts with the commission and establish a mutually beneficial partnership concerning compliance matters.

Boleigha commended Olukoyede for his significant contributions to compliance management, corporate intelligence, and anti-fraud strategies. He also acknowledged Olukoyede’s efforts in conducting anti-corruption assessments for various law enforcement agencies, governmental bodies, and businesses, underscoring his dedication and expertise in these areas.
