Awka Cult War Update: Gunmen Fatally Shoot Individual Sparking Chaos


At the bustling Aroma junction in the heart of Awka, the capital city of Anambra State, a tragic incident unfolded as gunmen believed to be associated with cult groups took the life of an individual.

The gunfire, which occurred on a Wednesday evening, led to chaos in the vicinity. This resulted in local traders hastily shutting down their shops and fleeing for safety.

The victim, a resident of Amudo Village in Awka, was identified as a tricycle revenue collector who had previously worked as a Keke operator.

According to a source, the attackers followed him from the Ifite area of the capital and fatally shot him at close range near a popular filling station that also serves as a key bus stop for public transportation.

The unfolding situation prompted business establishments in the area to swiftly cease operations, while roadside vendors abandoned their merchandise and ran for cover.

In the aftermath of the incident, the major roads nearby quickly cleared as panicked individuals deserted their vehicles and fled on foot.

As of the latest update, the victim’s lifeless body remained at the filling station where the shooting took place.

Awka has been plagued by a series of cult-related violent incidents, with rival gangs carrying out killings in broad daylight.
