Peace Advocated by Stakeholders in Response to Awka Cult Conflict, Condemning Acts of Violence

On Thursday, April 18, 2024, significant figures in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State united in promoting harmonious relationships among community members.

An emergency assembly of key stakeholders in Awka was convened to address the prevalent crimes and gun-related violence in the region, emphasizing the need for lasting resolutions.

During a statement to the press post-meeting, Ossy Onuko, the Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), vocalized strong disapproval of gun violence within the state capital, emphasizing that the possession of illegal firearms is a punishable offense.

He articulated, “It is imperative to find sustainable solutions to security challenges, as the responsibility lies with elected and appointed officials to ensure the safety of Awka, not only for its residents but also for the influx of numerous investors entering the city.”

Highlighting Governor Soludo’s endeavors to revitalize and rejuvenate the city, he stressed that such efforts should not be undermined by the actions of a minority seeking undeserved gains.

Appealing earnestly to young individuals involved in illicit activities, Onuko urged them to embrace peace, portraying Awka as a hub of productivity in the South East region.

Another speaker at the gathering, Anagor ThankGod, the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, underscored the gravity of the prevailing gun issues in Awka, urging wrongdoers to opt for peaceful resolutions for the community’s broader welfare.

In addition, the stakeholders briefed the Anambra State Commissioner of Police and indicated that their conclusions would be forwarded to the governor for further consideration.
