The fateful 7.4 magnitude earthquake that shook Colombia last Monday has already left at least 240 dead and thousands injured, becoming one of the most devastating in the Latin American country in recent years.
Faced with this tragic situation, many people have joined a great wave of solidarity to mobilize resources and help the thousands of victims throughout the country. Among them, several of the most internationally recognized Colombian artists have wanted to take charge of the cause.
This is the case of the singer Karol G, who has made her Con Cora foundation fully available to those affected, working hand in hand with other organizations to bring direct humanitarian assistance to the areas hardest hit by the earthquake.
Names such as Camilo, Mau y Ricky, Evaluna and Ricardo Montaner have also joined this chain of support, who have announced the activation of The House Project, a humanitarian organization that aims to send urgent aid to the country, collect donations and address the emergency on the ground.
Another of the leaders of Latin music who has dedicated himself to the cause has been Maluma. The singer has announced through his social networks the decision to start providing material support and infrastructure: “we are going to start providing a lot of help, from Casa Eterna, Remanence and our El Arte de los Sueños foundation,” he explained, while motivating his followers to join in: “we are going to continue supporting because rebuilding the damage is going to take time, money and many other things.”
For their part, artists such as J Balvin, Ryan Castro and Nicky Jam, in harmony with the company Reliance Jets, have joined together in a joint initiative to make available private planes that allow them to transport donations and essential supplies to areas that are difficult to access.
Likewise, the singer Blessd, through the Sueños de Barrio foundation and in collaboration with Dímelo Jara Company, has led an operation to mobilize around 120 tons of humanitarian aid to the most impacted regions, including Chocó, Quibdó, Pereira and Manizales.
Finally, the Morat group, through the Learn to Love Foundation, will set up donation collection points at the venue where they will offer their next concerts in Bogotá in collaboration with UNICEF. In addition, the band has confirmed that it will donate a part of the box office proceeds to the reconstruction of educational institutions affected by the earthquake.
