The attorney general of the Mexican state of Morelos, Fernando Blumenkron Escobar, has pointed out that the alleged murderer of the Spanish student, Claudia Tacoronte, 21, was “under the influence of some drug or alcoholic” when he committed the crime. However, as sources report, the results of the toxicological tests remain to be confirmed.
After his capture in the municipality of Cuautla, the accused, Francisco Javier Meléndez, known as ‘El Trompas’, has been placed in preventive detention while the judicial authorities advance the femicide procedure and try to clarify the details of the attack on Claudia.
The young Spanish woman was doing an exchange between the Spanish University of Granada and the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM). Tacoronte was murdered on September 12 with a knife and, according to local media, the student’s mobile phone was the main reason for the attack. The security forces plan to formally charge the crime as femicide and thus request the maximum penalty.
The keys to arrest and the beginning of repatriation
After completing the arrest of El Trompas, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, thanked the Mexican authorities for the speed of the investigation after confirming that the suspect was the aggressor for having confessed to being responsible for the events. Separately, the remains of the young woman have been delivered to several members of the family in an event in which the Spanish consul in Mexico, Marcos Rodríguez, participated, thus activating the procedures to repatriate the body.
